Notice: Seeking Citizens for Upcoming Elections

The Town of Independence, Virginia is looking for motivated, interested, and qualified town citizens to enter the upcoming Council and Mayoral elections to be held on November 3, 2026. 

For those who are considering the opportunity, you must register by the Deadline – Tuesday, June 16, 2026. This can be accomplished two ways: 

  1. In-Person – Packets with the required two documents are available at the Director of Elections & General Registrar’s office located in Room 101 of the lower level of the Grayson County Administrative & Courthouse Building at 129 Davis Street, Independence, VA. 
  2. Online – go to Virginia Department of Elections (https://www.elections.virginia.gov) – tap the three bars in the upper left corner and from the drop down box select “Candidate/PAC Info” – then select “Candidate Forms” – under “Local Offices” Select: SBE 501(4) “Certificate of Candidate Qualification” and “ELECT 505/520 – Declaration of Candidacy”. Print, fill out, and return both forms to the location in #1 above before the deadline listed above.

DMV Select

DMV Selects are a service alternative to visiting a full-service DMV Customer Service Center. Local governments and private entities contract with the DMV to provide secure, select DMV transactions at convenient locations. Selects can process vehicle titling and registration transactions; however, they are prohibited from processing any online or franchise dealership work. DMV Selects do not issue Driver’s Licenses, Lerners Permits or Identification Cards. More information is available at the DMV Website.
