The Town of Independence will hold a public hearing on September 8th, 2020 at 5:55 PM at the Independence Volunteer Fire Department located at 329 Davis Street Independence VA to solicit public input on local community development in relation to Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) proposal to be submitted to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for the Food Independence Food Pantry Assistance Project. Residents are encouraged to attend. The Project proposal will include the following activities: Funding for the purchase of food, equipment, masks, gloves, storage units etc.. to help further the efforts of Food Independence food pantry to feed families in need affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Information on the amount of funding available, the requirements on benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, eligible activities, and plans to minimize displacement and provide displacement assistance as necessary will be available. Citizens will also be given the opportunity to comment on the Town’s past use of CDBG funds. All interested citizens are urged to attend.
